In late 2023, a pivotal moment of transformation unfolded in Niger state, as a generous donor stepped forward to support the construction of a much-needed water station. This initiative, aimed at alleviating water scarcity in rural communities, was preceded by meticulous planning and assessment to ensure maximum impact.
Before breaking ground, our team conducted a comprehensive desk review, meticulously analyzing potential areas of need across Niger state. Understanding the critical importance of access to clean water, we further conducted a thorough needs assessment to identify communities most in need of support. It became evident that while all communities faced water challenges, certain areas bore a heavier burden than others.
The Bisisi community emerged as a focal point for intervention. This community, heavily reliant on agriculture for sustenance, grappled with water scarcity, particularly during the dry season. Despite having a well, it often dried up, leaving residents with no choice but to embark on arduous journeys in search of water for domestic use.
With the construction of the water station, a beacon of hope dawned upon the Bisisi community. No longer burdened by the uncertainty of water access, residents could now enjoy the convenience of portable water right at their doorstep. This not only eased the daily struggles of fetching water but also bolstered agricultural activities, vital for the community’s livelihood.
